Recreation Coordinator – Sports & Special Interest Community Programs

Salary: $5,906 to $7,549 per month DOQ plus Benefits. Salaried, Full-Time, Non-Exempt.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Develops, plans, promotes, implements and evaluates programs and events including youth and adult sports, fitness and wellness programs, variety of special interest classes, and other recreation programs as assigned.

Contracts and schedules District athletic fields for rental use by community groups and others. Coordinates field preparation needs with maintenance team.

Prepares and monitors program budget, maintaining detailed records of revenue and expenditures. Contracts for services of instructors and professional services. Writes grant proposals and research alternative funding sources. Assists with the preparation of the fee schedule for activities and programs. Oversees the use, care and inventory of related program equipment and supplies.

Assists with hiring, selecting and evaluating seasonal employees.  Schedules, organizes, coordinates and assigns the work of seasonal staff, instructors and volunteers; provides training and counseling as needed.

Processes registrations using recreation management software; maintains various reference files; assembles and organizes data and prepares necessary reports. Receives and reviews for completion a variety of documents, applications and invoices; receives money for items, fees or services and prepares receipts and records. Processes refunds and credits and manages credit accounts.

Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner, providing information within the scope of knowledge or refers to appropriate individual and/or supervisor for resolution. Greets callers and visitors; handles and processes incoming agency calls; screens calls and takes messages; directs inquiries to the proper source and answers questions within the context of established policies and procedures; may initiate routine correspondence in performance of duties and response to inquiries.

Supervises and instructs program participants in the rules and proper participation in games and various recreational activities.  Ensures proper behavior on the part of program participants; takes disciplinary action as needed; responds quickly to potentially hazardous situations and accidents; prepares reports related to incidents and accidents. Oversees the use, care and inventory of related program equipment and supplies.  Performs custodial duties as needed. Provides transportation for assigned programs using a District vehicle.

Develops and distributes marketing materials related to specific programs.  Coordinates with other District employees to develop the seasonal recreation program guide.  Continuously seeks new marketing and advertising opportunities.

Coordinates recreation programs with programs offered by schools, community sports groups, special sports groups and agencies; coordinates planning and development activities with other agencies, private enterprises and jurisdictions.
